Samantha Cook | Dorset | Wedding Photographer | based in Bournemouth
Hello. I am a professional wedding photographer based in Bournemouth, Dorset. I specialize in Documentary Weddings, combining natural, contemporary wedding photography, with a reportage approach, providing you with beautiful wedding pictures, that tell the story of your wedding day.
I grew up in the beautiful Dorset countryside on the Isle of Purbeck, and now live in sunny Bournemouth, just a short walk from the lovely golden sandy beaches. I love to take long walks in the countryside and enjoy visits to the theatre.
My love for photography began whilst I was studying performing arts in London. I had planned a future in modern dance, but had my head turned by a visit to a local photography class one evening, the rest as they say is history.
In my earlier years, I worked in the traditional style of social photography, but felt frustrated with all the staged and managed posing. What excited me most was storytelling, capturing natural fleeting moments between loved ones, that can be treasured for a life time.
Realising the need to provide a more original and modern service, I turned my attentions into developing a more documentary style of photography. I went back to study full-time and attended the Documentary Photography course founded by Magnum photographer David Hurn, at The University of Wales Newport, obtaining my BA degree in Documentary Photography.
I have documented projects as far a field as Ghana for Sightsavers, to documenting the dying craftsmanship of the Purbeck Stone Quarrymen.
I went on to establish myself as a freelance photographer, working with many of the UK’s leading companies in the corporate, press and public relations industries.
I believe I have gained a reputation of being able to act often under great pressure, and time constraints, with people from all walks of life, coming away with great images, whilst making the people I photograph, feel relaxed and comfortable.
My passion is to photograph all my weddings in the Documentary Style and over the past ten years I have been driven to provide my wedding clients with the best possible service and attention to detail.
I feel very privileged, that through my work, I get the chance to meet so many different personalities, and even luckier to share with them, one of the happiest days of their lives. My greatest reward is knowing that the couple are happy with my work, and knowing that I have created a memento for them to treasure for the rest of their lives.
